Literature Text
I want to remember
the father I had,
not by blood,
but by memories shared
between two hearts
closer then the
space between
interlocked fingers.
I want to remember
the man I loved
before I knew that love
was a tangible thing,
felt in glowing smiles,
warm embraces,
and grinning eyes.
I want to remember
the days we shared,
not even separated by
sleep, for my dreams
followed me into reality
where nightmares
could never reach me.
I want to remember
our last hello,
the way your smile
touched my heart
and made me grin
when not even God
could have forced
my lips to change.
I want to remember
the father I wanted,
the dad that I thought
I would never have,
and never realized was
there all along,
right above my head.

This poem was written about my Uncle who passed 5 years ago. He was more of a father to me then my real dad. I believe that true love exists, whether or not it is a family love, a romantic love, or a friendship kind of love. I truly believe that he was the love of my life, in a fatherly kind of way, and not in a creepy way like I bet some of you are thinking.
